Dear Friends,
During the new millennium, our general awareness of numerous environmental
issues has increased. In French Polynesia, an important issue is
the marine turtles and at Le Meridien Bora Bora we are pleased
to house a large-scale ecological project: The Marine Turtle’s
Protection Centre.
This centre is located in Le Meridien Bora Bora’s private lagoon
and remains unique in its conception and location.
This project originated when an injured turtle was brought by a
guest to the hotel as it needed care. From there a fabulous project
was born; the creation of a centre which would protect and care
for the marine turtles.
We’ve come a long way since the arrival of the first turtle in
Le Meridien Bora Bora. The turtle’s centre has become a real sanctuary
and a scientific observatory. Thanks to the assistance of the government,
the Ministry of the Environment and to the advice of numerous American
scientists, you can see a wide number of turtles today freely living
in the resort’s interior lagoon.
A great benefit of this project is allowing tourism and awareness
of ecology to come together. As tourists swim and observe the turtles
in free dives, they also become sensitive to the care and necessary
precautions that must be taken when in contact with these magnificient
and rare animals.
The Ministry and the Direction of the Environment control the good
implementation and follow-up of procedures such as veterinarian
visits and regular cares.
We look forward to welcoming you to the exceptionnal environment
of Le Meridien Bora Bora where you can share with us this passion
and experience, the discovery of the mysterious world of the turtles.
Le Méridien Bora Bora, Experience the Polynesia!
